Organically grown Green Globe Artichoke Seeds - Harvested and Packaged locally from our own garden.
Fun Fact: Before the 16th century, women were not allowed to eat the vegetable because they were still considered to have aphrodisiac properties.
One medium artichoke has more fibre than a cup of prunes.
Preparation and growing conditions: Rich, well-draining soil.
Sowing: 10mm deep at 160 - 200 cm apart
Climate: 15-30 degrees. Not frost tolerant.
Companion Plants: Asparagus, Tarragon, Sunflowers, Marigolds and Violets, Peas, Brassica family (Cabbage, Cauliflower and Broccoli), Corn, Thyme and Cucumbers
Avoid Planting with: Fennel, Thistles
Fertiliser and feeding: Vegetable fertiliser, manure or compost every 4-6 weeks. A thick mulch will help retain water and keep weeds at bay.
Germination: 14-21 days
Harvesting: 42-57 weeks - harvest before buds begin to open.
Storage: Artichokes can be stored in a perforated or open plastic bag in the crisper section of your refrigerator for up to 2 weeks after harvesting. You can also freeze cooked artichoke for 10 months.
Minimum of 20 seeds per pack. Beautifully packaged in resealable, lightproof Ziplock packaging, designed to keep seeds fresh.
